The Club’s pride and joy is its Junior Golf and Tennis Programs. For two weeks out of the summer months juniors, ages 6 to 12, rule the course and courts. For a week in July and August, forty juniors spend five hours a day working to improve their skills.
Junior Golf & Tennis Registration
The juniors start their day with a little over two hours of golf instruction. They are divided up into four groups of ten. Based on age, they rotate through each station. Juniors get to experience a world-class clinic with visually appealing obstacles, professional support and parental guidance. We ask that parents and grandparents stick around for the golf portion of the program. This helps to motivate the young golfers and allows for training beyond the clinic hours. Golf is not only about learning how to play the game properly, but is also about respecting its traditions, rules and dress code. Children attending the academy are expected to adhere to the club's dress code policy. The Golf Shop offers a full line of junior clothing throughout this time for those needing proper attire.
When the last rotation is through, attendees head up to the Clubhouse where they eat lunch outside under a tent. On Wednesdays, they have lunch at Morewood Lake and go for a swim. Lunch is the perfect time for juniors to rest, relax and discover lifelong friendships before heading off to tennis. At 12:30pm groups finish out the remaining hours of the program on the courts.
Many families make a quick stop down at the Lake before heading home. The program ends at three o’clock and is designed to allow plenty of time for juniors to rest and relax before returning for the next action-packed day.
Attendees compete to earn prizes throughout the week with tickets at every station they attend. At lunchtime and after tennis, they write their names on these tickets. Tickets are drawn at the end of each day and a prize is awarded to one attendee. Tickets are then placed in a large bucket for the main raffle drawing on Friday. Every attendee receives a prize on Friday as well as a certificate of participation.
For many participants, the skills they learn and the friendships they make throughout this week last a lifetime. Many look forward to the program’s return not only for its educational experience, but to be reunited with Juniors from past programs. We welcome the opportunity to work with your children and to continue this time-honored tradition at the Country Club of Pittsfield for many years’ to come!
